ZipMail Real-Time - Bitmap Optimization at Work
Real-Time Zip compression and bitmap optimization in incoming and outgoing emails routed by your Domino servers
ZipMail Real-Time includes state-of-the-art bitmap optimization features that drastically reduce the volume of bitmaps, pictures and other screen shots copied and pasted in the emails routed by your Domino servers.
Activation of the copied and pasted image optimization features is optional. When activated, ZipMail Real-Time performs the image optimization at the same time as the Zip compression of the attached files (when processing the emails routed by your Domino server).
This page is about the ZipMail Real-Time image optimization features. For a full description of the product, please go to the ZipMail Real-Time home page.
More Details: Up to 95% reduction of the volume consumed by the copied and pasted images found in the messages routed by your Domino Servers
Now let's review a real-life example of the ZipMail Real-Time bitmap optimization features:
John has found new offices for the headquarters of one of his customers.
He wants to send them a picture of the building (taken with his digital camera
producing 1,600 x 1,200 Pixels JPG files).
TEST 1 - 81% savings - 1.45 MB transformed to 278 KB
John does a quick copy/paste of his picture from his imaging software to a Notes message:
Internally, (You cannot see this because Notes renders the image in the message's
body), but this picture is stored as a BMP file inside the Notes message.
This because it has been copy/pasted from a windows application (and this even
if the original file displayed in the imaging software was a JPG, like in our
example).
The size of this Notes message is, after saving it in the draft folder of Notes, and as reported by Notes, 1,493,496 bytes: |
John sends this message.
When received on the Domino server running ZipMail Real-Time, the copy and
pasted bitmap is instantly optimized by ZipMail Real-Time, configured as
follows:
The size of the Notes message, once processed by ZipMail Real-Time is now, as reported by Notes 284,685 bytes: And the rendering of the picture displayed in Notes is exactly the same! |
ZipMail Real-Time saved 1,208,811 bytes on 1,493,496.
The resulting Notes document is 5.25 times smaller than the original one (81%
savings).
TEST 2 - 98.5 % savings - 1.45 MB transformed to 22 KB
As you can see, the size of picture copy and pasted by John is to big to fit
well in his message.
That's the reason why, in this second test, John decides to resize his picture.
To do this, it uses the handle at the bottom right corner of the copy/pasted
picture, in his Notes message.
After the picture has been scaled, the John's message looks better:
Internally, as in our previous test, (You cannot see this because Notes renders
the image in the message's body), but this picture is stored as a BMP file
inside the Notes message.
This because it has been copy and pasted from a windows application (and this
even if the original file displayed in the imaging software was a JPG, like
in our example).
The size of this Notes message is, after saving it in the draft folder, and, as reported by Notes, 1,493,527 bytes. The same size as before! The reason is that here, Notes does a logical resizing of the picture for the rendering purpose. Internally, the picture was not physically resized by Notes! |
John sends this message.
When received on the Domino server running ZipMail Real-Time, the copy and
pasted bitmap is instantly optimized by ZipMail Real-Time, configured as
follows:
As you noticed, this time, we checked the "Logical -> Physical resize" option.
ZipMail Real-Time will so resize physically the logically-resized pictures
contained in the Notes messages it processes (only if they are resized smaller
than the original ones).
The size of the Notes document is now, as reported by Notes 22,048 bytes. No, you are not dreaming! ZipMail Real-Time has just reduced this 1.45 MB Notes document to only 22 KB. |
With this document, ZipMail Real-Time saved 1,471,448 bytes on 1,493,496, a huge 98.5% savings!!!
Of course, despite this story being 100% true, you will not believe this!
That's the reason why we suggest you to check for yourself.
Simply get
our ZipMail Real-Time evaluation kit and do these tests by yourself.
Your will even receive the JPG file we used as a part of our evaluation toolkit.
You will so be able to check our results and to play with your own bitmaps,
screen shots and other pictures.
And this is only a part of the value of ZipMail Real-Time. As seen in the introduction of this page, ZipMail Real-Time also compresses into Zip files, all of the attached files in incoming and outgoing emails!
